Durham’s H&R Block office not only boasts a master tax advisor who helped taxpayers get every credit and deduction, but also a business owner who has a new role with the global consumer tax services provider. Chris Wilson, franchise owner of 11 Durham-area H&R Block locations, was elected chair of H&R Block’s Franchise Leadership Council (FLC), a representative group of small business owners from across the country who serve as liaisons between the 1,462 H&R Block franchisees and corporate leadership.

In April, H&R Block franchisees elected Wilson to chair the council after two years as a member. He will lead the group in their efforts to foster constructive, open and two-way communications between the franchisee community and the management of H&R Block. He will serve a two-year term. FLC nominees must contribute to the growth and development of their business, employees and community.

“We have a robust Franchise Leadership Council that works with us on a year-round basis to review strategic options and business initiatives,” said Kip Knight, H&R Block Senior Vice President. “H&R Block FLC members represent the highest level of franchisee leadership. I am honored to welcome Chris Wilson to his new role as chair of Franchise Leadership Council.”

Wilson will travel to H&R Block’s World Headquarters, Kansas City, Missouri in May where he will be seated as chair and begin his leadership role. Wilson is also slated to participate in a summer listening tour where he’ll meet with fellow franchisee and share ideas that can grow business. He’ll also meet with franchisees at the national convention late this fall.

Wilson became a franchise owner in 2003 and currently employs 113 employees including tax professionals and client service professionals. Year round, his offices provide audit support, bookkeeping services, payroll and business startup advisory services. He serves on the budget committee for the local school district and is involved with the Winston Salem State University local alumni association. Chris and Gwen, his wife of 31 years, have lived in Durham for 28 years. Their children, Evan and Grant, are also involved in the family business.
