Getting your taxes done each year can feel like taking a major task off your to-do list. However, if you’ve completed your taxes and recently found out the IRS has no record of your tax return, don’t panic – we can help.

How you determine what to do next depends on the method you used to file your return.

If you filed your return via the mail, print another copy of the return and mail it to the IRS again. Attach copies of any Forms W-2 for the return. If you paid the tax you owed, attach a copy of either:

  • Your canceled check.
  • Confirmation that the payment has been processed.

If you e-filed your return with an H&R Block Online product, log into your account and check the status of your return. Then:

  • If your return was rejected, the IRS didn’t receive the return. Correct any rejection issues in the product and e-file your return again. You can use our online support center for help in resolving the rejected return.

If the return was accepted, write down your declaration control number (DCN). Then, contact the IRS at 800-829-1040. Give the IRS your DCN and date you e-filed.

Receiving IRS Letter 4903

If the IRS has no record of your tax return, you may receive IRS letter 4903. Generally, if you receive this letter, you’ll have 10 days to respond to the IRS. Learn more about IRS Letter 4903 and how the Tax Pros at H&R Block can help you.
