IRS definition

Tax Return Transcript – shows most line items including your adjusted gross income (AGI) from your original tax return (Form 1040, 1040A or 1040EZ) as filed, along with any forms and schedules. It doesn’t show changes made after you filed your original return. This transcript is only available for the current tax year and returns processed during the prior three years.

If you or your tax professional need a copy of a return you filed, you can request a tax return transcript. You may need a tax return transcript if you lost your copy of the return or you need information from your return to obtain a mortgage, get a loan or so your tax professional can assist you with an issue you are having with the IRS.

It is important to note that if you amended your return or the IRS made any changes to the return you filed, these changes will not be reflected on a tax return transcript. Request a tax account transcript to see any changes that were made to the return after it was filed.
