Why you received IRS Letter 4281C

  1. Your personal tax information was accessed during an IRS data breach or your information was lost.
  2. The IRS sent Letter 4281C to notify you of the breach or loss and to inform you that a free year of identity theft protection is available. You must request the ID theft protection within 90 days of the date on the letter.

Notice deadline: 90 days

If you miss the deadline: If you do not contact the credit bureau mentioned in the letter within 90 days, you will not be eligible for the free year of ID theft protection.
