H&R Block Sweepstakes Winners Rolling In; Have Big Plans for $1,000

Have you won $1,000 in our sweepstakes contest yet? We’ve given away millions of dollars to clients who have filed their taxes with us this year. Simply because this is how we like to celebrate refund season!

And we are celebrating it with some of the best people around. Our winners have lots of ways to use their $1,000 prize (see some of them on social media by searching #mygrandplan). Most heart-warming to us has been the winners who are sharing their good fortune with others. Whether it means helping a family member or donating to their favorite nonprofit, many are telling us that they plan to give away some – or all – of their $1,000.

Then, there’s serendipity. The brand-new mom who is notified that she won $1,000 on the same day her baby is born – that happened! For this couple, winning while pregnant has brought important piece of mind that they can financially prepare for their child.

Another real story: a client’s car was about to be auctioned off when he found out he won $1,000 and could reverse the process. Or how about winning $1,000 on the same weekend you get married? Some might say it’s the recipe for a fantastic honeymoon. This couple is putting it toward their first house.

While those plans are all pretty exciting, a poll on the H&R Block newsroom found that nearly 80% of people would save the money or use it to pay off debt if they won. How financially responsible!
